You Saved My Soul

A young man, dealing with the grief after putting his cat down, is visited by the same cat who gives him some perspective.
Wow, I didn't realize how long it's been since I've posted on here. Chalk it up to being busy working on submitting short stories and queries to potential agents as well as my old computer dying. If it's not one thing it's another.
Anyways, this story is WAY different from what I usually write. It's not a horror story, there are no evil speculative elements and everything works out in the end. I would describe this one as more of an urban fantasy that I wrote to help cope with the loss of my cat Chevy (pictured above).
She was an absolute diva but she was my diva and I was had to make the hard decision to put her down back in 2021 after a series of health problems. People grieve in different ways and I think my way was to write a story that allowed me to believe that I gave her as good of a life as I could.
I shopped this story around to a few places before the awesome people at Schlock Webzine picked it up and included it in their June issue. I received no payment but honestly I'm just happy that my most personal story was able to find a home. And hopefully it might help other people cope with the loss of their furry friends.
May they all cross the rainbow bridge in peace.
