Call Waiting

A young woman, on the phone with her son, receives a call from someone who claims to be her real son.

The truly wonderful folks at Slash Magazine have accepted my short story 'Call Waiting' into their online roster. I'm so happy to share another spooky tale with you all, especially with Halloween just a couple of weeks away!

The funny/eerie thing about this story is that it comes from something similar that happened to me.

I was talking to my mom one night when I heard something buzzing in the ear. I looked at the phone and saw that my mom was trying to call me while I was on the phone with my mom.

At the time I just shrugged it off as a glitch and hung up on this other mother that was calling me.

But I've always wondered what would have happened if I accepted the call. Maybe it would have just lead me back to the original call I was making or maybe it was somebody (or something) that claimed that they were my real mother and the one I was talking to was an imposter.

Funny how sometimes I don't find inspiration, inspiration finds me.
